Indians eye third straight conference title and state run under Coach Matteson

The Fairfield boys bowling team enters the 2025–26 season with momentum and a championship mindset under veteran head coach Phil Matteson, who begins his 12th year at the varsity helm after four seasons leading the JV program. Over his tenure, Matteson has built the Indians into a consistent contender, amassing a 76–32 conference record and 132–63 overall mark, including back-to-back conference titles.

The team’s goals remain straightforward and ambitious. “Back-to-back conference championships, get to State,” Matteson said.

Fairfield’s lineup is anchored by a trio of proven performers: junior Blake Stark, sophomore Brayden George, and senior Dylan Peters. “Blake Stark – junior – compete for conference high average,” Matteson said. “Brayden George – sophomore – compete for conference high average. Dylan Peters – senior – be a leader.” Together, they provide the experience and firepower necessary to challenge for another conference crown.

Rounding out the rotation are senior Connor Meyer and freshman Brady Hallman, both expected to contribute as the season progresses.

Matteson points to team unity as a defining strength. “Team cohesiveness – all bowlers all been in the program, except the freshman,” he said. However, he also notes the need to build depth behind the starting five: “We need to strengthen our 6th, 7th, and 8th bowlers.”

As always, the schedule features marquee competition. “All of our conference matches are big and always look forward to the Back-To-School Bash and the Lancer’s Baker Bash,” Matteson said.

With strong returning leadership, a competitive mindset, and championship expectations, Fairfield looks well-positioned to defend its league title and make a push toward the state tournament.
