Warriors aim for 13th straight district trip — and their first state berth
Few programs in Ohio have matched the consistency of Lebanon boys bowling under longtime head coach Ron Volmering. Entering his 19th season, all with the Warriors, Volmering has built a legacy of sustained success with a 212–149 career record and 12 consecutive district appearances. Over the past two years, the Warriors have gone an impressive 35–3, and this season, they return four of five starters with two talented freshmen joining the mix.
“Could we finally make a trip to state? I guess we’ll see,” Volmering said.
The coaching staff, led by Volmering and assistant coach Scott Kober, has set clear goals: “Win the ECC title – Get back to Districts for the 13th straight year – Make our 1st trip to state.”
Leading the charge is sophomore Connor Copeland, the reigning ECC Bowler of the Year, who will likely roll in the No. 4 or 5 spot in the Baker lineup. Junior Matthew Alvear, who averaged 206 last season, will take on leadoff duties, while junior Carson Turner (199 average) will rotate between the 4th and 5th positions. Juniors Ryan Pelfrey and Liam Cummins, along with freshmen Ryan Kober and Corry Gates, are all expected to contribute heavily this year.
“Ryan Kober and Corry Gates are both freshmen and their success will determine how well we do this year,” Volmering said.
Depth may be the Warriors’ biggest asset this season. “We have maybe more depth this year than last and the kids all really get along,” Volmering said. “Like most high school kids, [they] need to learn how to make spares more consistently.”
As for the schedule, every conference matchup will matter, but one stands above the rest. “All of our ECC matchups are important but our home match against West Clermont will be crucial,” Volmering said. “They were our only loss last year.”
With experience, chemistry, and championship goals driving them, the Warriors look ready to turn their district streak into a state breakthrough.
