Deep Bulldogs roster sets sights on GGCL title and postseason success

The Saint Ursula Academy Bulldogs are poised for one of their most promising seasons yet under Head Coach Dominique Walker, who enters her seventh season leading the program. Alongside Assistant Coach Mitchell, now in his fifth season, Walker has guided the Bulldogs to 48 match wins, one overall conference title, and three tournament victories — two at the varsity level and one in JV competition.

This year’s group could be the best and the deepest the program has ever had. “The Bulldogs have a chance to make a run for the GGCL conference title this season as well as be a contender in the postseason,” Walker said. “A record number of athletes on the team this year, the team has depth and is looking forward to a successful season.”

The Bulldogs’ goals are ambitious but grounded in experience. “Our team is working hard to work collectively toward winning our conference this season,” Walker said. “We are looking to make a run for state this season and hopefully advance past the District level in the postseason. With the number of experienced returning athletes and new talent, we should have a good shot at a successful postseason run.”

Junior Mitzi Sperber will play a key role in that pursuit. A consistent performer last season, Sperber posted the team’s second-highest average and will serve as a leader both on and off the lanes. “She should be one to watch as she continues to develop in her junior season,” Walker noted.

Freshman talent also adds excitement to the roster. Incoming bowlers Aleah Mitchell and Jing Holland are expected to make an early impression as part of the team’s growing youth movement.

“I think the biggest strength that we have this season is the depth on the team,” Walker said. “We have 23 bowlers this season, so we are looking forward to developing the new athletes and seeing the returning girls lead in different capacities throughout the season. The biggest area of growth for the team is developing the 12 freshmen and getting additional matches on the schedule.”

As for key matchups, Saint Ursula is eager for conference play. “As usual, we always look forward to our conference matches, specifically the match against Seton,” Walker said. “We are also bowling Lebanon this season for the first time in my tenure, so we are looking forward to that match.”

With a balanced mix of leadership, depth, and determination, the Bulldogs enter the season ready to make noise in the GGCL and deep into March.
