Patriots set bold goals behind senior-heavy roster and title ambitions

With depth, experience, and confidence on their side, the Archbishop Carroll Patriots enter the 2025–26 season eyeing not only league dominance but also major program milestones. Head coach Mitchell Weitz, now in his third season leading the program and sixth overall, has guided the Patriots to 24 varsity wins and 57 at the JV level. This year, the team has its sights set on reaching 300 program wins and 200 league victories, benchmarks that reflect Carroll’s sustained success.

“We’re senior heavy and have a goal to go undefeated in match play this season,” Weitz said. “Expectations [are] league champs and four first team GCL bowlers.”

Carroll’s senior leadership core sets the tone. Caleb Weitz, a returning First Team GCL selection, headlines the group after a strong offseason. “Had a big offseason and we expect him to take a huge jump in average and compete for bowler of the year,” Weitz said. Joining him is Jack Dunlap, a sophomore returning starter who “worked really hard this offseason to improve his average” and is expected to be the team’s second or third go-to bowler.

Also back are Fabio Arias-Rodriguez, a returning Second Team GCL member who “had a great offseason and [we] expect him to get 1st team GCL and compete at tournaments,” and Adam Alcid, another returning Second Team selection. Evan Brun, a senior who was leading the GCL in average before breaking his collarbone last season, returns healthy and ready to make an impact. “Expect him to come back with a vengeance,” Weitz said.

Junior Ryan McKinzie makes his varsity debut after a breakthrough offseason. “[He] improved his average by nearly 30 pins this offseason. Expect a huge jump for him,” Weitz said.

When assessing his team, Weitz said, “I think we have an ability to rely on each other. We don't have one guy that feels he has to do it on his own. We realize we have an outstanding team and that is going to help all of them relax and execute at a high level.” The team’s growth area, he added, is in mental toughness: “We have to learn to get out of our head and pick up the easy spares. We have a bad habit of getting upset when a good ball doesn't strike and then missing the easy spare. We get over that hump, and we could make a huge splash this year.”

The Patriots’ first big test comes on November 21 against Stebbins, a team that “got the best of us twice last season and [is] returning all 5 starters.” Carroll will counter with four returning starters and “a key piece” added to the rotation — a matchup that could define their early season trajectory.
