Bombers Eye 20th District Appearance

Entering his 12th season at the helm, Head Coach Matthew Hott took over a strong GCL program and has kept St. Xavier as one of the region’s most consistently competitive bowling programs — and the Bombers are hungry to add to that legacy this winter. With 112 career wins already on his résumé, Hott’s squad aims to make districts for the 20th time in school history while chasing a Greater Catholic League title and a coveted trip to the OHSAA State Finals.

“Our goal is to grow the program, win GCL, and make the State Finals,” Hott said. “The boys have embraced that challenge since day one.”

The Bombers will rely on a mix of veteran leadership and young energy to get there. Senior Joe Geers returns after posting a 198.8 average last season, giving St. X an anchor in key matches, while sophomore Luke Stigall (175.5 average) looks to take a leap in his second varsity campaign. The program also welcomes Ian McConnell and Mason Carota to varsity, alongside a JV roster featuring eight new bowlers, signaling a strong future pipeline.

Hott points to St. Xavier’s Jesuit value of being Open to Growth as a key strength on the lanes. “The boys are able to take this mindset and adapt to ever-changing lane conditions and tournament setups,” he said. The main focus this preseason? Spare shooting consistency.

The Bombers’ schedule features six tough GCL matchups and a full slate of 10 tournaments. St. Xavier will open in the Rollhouse Championship, a high-energy event featuring all Rollhouse-based teams, and will host Cleveland powerhouse St. Ignatius for a first-ever head-to-head meeting — a highlight matchup Hott says his team is especially eager for.
